    The historic downtown area of Frankfort is a favorite shopping spot for Clinton County residents. The Main Street organizations began renovations in 1985, paving sidewalks, planting trees, improving traffic signals, and rehabilitating historic buildings. This downtown area is a unique spot where residents have access to quaint boutiques and a diverse selection of merchants.


      Becoming more popular with the passing of each night sky is the Prairie Grass Observatory located on the grounds of Camp Cullom just north of Frankfort. The rural dark sky offers one of the best places in the midwest to star gaze. More than 2,000 visitors come yearly from various locations to catch a glimpse of the heavens through PGO's powerful telescopes. The observatory has three telescopes: a huge 28" aperture Dobsonian, a 12" LX200 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, and a 16" Newtonian telescope.The two smaller scopes are housed in 12'X12' "roll-off-roof" style observatory buildings. The observatory also has a pair of giant 25/40X100 binoculars. So put your head in the clouds, bring your curiosity and enjoy some star gazing.


     Clinton County residents have access to numerous dining options at the area's cafes, fast food establishments, and family restaurants. Area clubs and lodges also offer dining facilities. With larger urban centers nearby, residents can access a vast pool of ethnic cuisine, fine dining establishments, and family favorite restaurant chains. 


     Lodging options in Clinton County range from economical motels to larger, more sophisticated hotel chains. Camp Cullom, north of Frankfort, offers camping facilities on its 90-acre site. Along with campgrounds, Camp Cullom is used for fishing, picnicking, sledding, hiking, and nature study. Founded more than 50 years ago, this facility also serves as a spot for nature study, with a natural habitat that is home to a wide variety of wildlife and vegetation. The Big Fish'N Campground also offers residents and Clinton County visitors a large camping area. Surrounded by stocked ponds, horseshoes, hiking trails, and play areas, this popular camping facility offers a relaxing getaway as well as affordable lodging.
