DESCRIPTION: In conjunction with Clinton County Reads programming\, the Friends of the Frankfort Library is pleased to sponsor the art exhibition “Living History: Looking at the Faces that Shaped Indiana” by Frankfort artist Dan Driggs\, March 1 -29\, 2012\, on the Garald and Toni Gill Lower Level\, Frankfort Library.   The exhibit will be open during regular library hours. This year\, Clinton County Reads is celebrating Indiana authors\, spotlighting James Alexander Thom and his historical novel\, “Follow the River.”  Driggs’ exhibit will be a collection of acrylic paintings representing the characters in occupation and dress of the late 1700s to early 1800s\, close to the time frame in which “Follow the River” takes place. Driggs studied art at Hastings College in Nebraska\, the University of Wyoming\, and in Barcelona\, Spain.  He exhibited works in Wyoming\, Colorado and Nebraska before moving to Indiana.  He has been painting since childhood\, but took a spiritual sabbatical for several years before embarking on his art career with new fervor. His recent work focuses on portraits and character studies of historical re-enactors.  He has been deeply influenced by the history of the Indiana frontier and the development of America. On Wednesday\, March 7 at noon\, at the Brown Bag lunch in Harry’s Coffee Bar on the library’s lower level\, Assistant Library Director Tom Smith will conduct a book discussion of Thom’s novel.  Following the Brown Bag\, Driggs will present an introduction to his exhibit and invite patrons to view the paintings.  The public is invited to attend.  Admission is free. For further information call 765-654-8746.  Programs and exhibits at the Frankfort Library are sponsored by the Friends and provided with support from the Tippecanoe Arts Federation\, the Indiana Arts Commission\, a state agency\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, a federal agency and the Nancy N. Fullerton Fund for the Anna and Harlan Hubbard School of Living.

SUMMARY:FREE BEGINNER 9 Patch Quilting Class with the Frankfort Quilt Guild
DESCRIPTION:FREE BEGINNER 9 Patch Quilting Class with the Frankfort Quilt Guild In an effort to bring the arts to as many people as possible\, the Friends of the Frankfort Library and the Frankfort Quilt Guild will sponsor a Free Beginner 9 Patch Quilting Class for adults.  The class will be offered on several dates.  Participants may choose from the following dates and times: Saturday\, January 14 from 9:30am-11:30am or Monday\, Jan. 16 from either 1-3pm or 6-8pm.  The classes will meet in the Mae Conard Art Studio\, Frankfort Library and be instructed by members of the Frankfort Quilt Guild. Participants will learn basic quilting techniques to create a 9 Patch quilt using fat quarters.  A fat quarter is a one-fourth yard cut of fabric that (usually) measures 18" x 22" instead of the typical 9" x 44" quarter-yard cut. The longest side's dimension will vary if your fabric is not 44" wide.  Participants should bring scissors\, quilting pins\, thread\, thimble\, cutting mat\, rotary cutter\, 14” acrylic ruler\, fabric and a sewing machine.  It would also be helpful to bring fat quarters and a one quarter inch presser foot for your sewing machine if you have them.  Some fabric may be furnished by the Quilt Guild. The library has a great selection of materials on quilting.  Check out “Once Upon a Quilt: A Scrapbook of Quilting Past and Present” by Karen Biedler Alexander or “More Quick Country Quilting: 60 New Fast and Fun Projects” by Debbie Mumm.  Both titles are available at the Frankfort Library. This class is free.   For further information and to register\, call the library at 765-654-8746\, stop by the circulation desk or visit the library’s website at http://fcpl.accs.net.  Programs at the Frankfort Library are sponsored by the Friends and provided with support from the Tippecanoe Arts Federation\, the Indiana Arts Commission\, a state agency\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, a federal agency and the Nancy N.
